Helix Bond was a complex, unregulated, high-risk investment. The distributors of the Helix Bond were Beaufort Securities Ltd, who also made Helix available as an ISA product. Beaufort itself entered liquidation March 2018 and closed its doors in 2020. Many Helix investors were unaware that their money was pooled together with other consumers without consent. A major consequence of this was that individual investors were unable to withdraw their funds unless all investors together decided to disinvest at the same time.
There were a number of financial advisors involved in the chain including Grosvenor Butterworth (Financial Services) Ltd, who were very often linked to advising on the Helix investment to such an extent that they too went into administration, shortly after losing their FCA permissions in 2018.
